Covering wall units and furniture with film

Come home, sit down, feel good! My private living room should above all offer me a relaxing environment, where not only the soul, but also the eye comes to rest. A pleasant furniture design is naturally part of this where especially the colours, but also the materials should perfectly match each other. Over the years, however, various pieces of furniture have accumulated that need to be restored to harmony, but unfortunately the gaze always falls prey to scuffs and quirks. Buying everything new is out of the question, my solution is much smarter!

Perfect transformation for furniture

With film: turn old into new.

Away from the conventional wood colour to today’s trendy decors such as concrete look and white. In this example, the old living wall design urgently needed a facelift but with the appropriate dimensions and the desired colour combination, the new furniture pieces were much more expensive than expected. The decision was made quickly: The living wall stays and gets a totally new look using interior film. All the cabinet doors are transformed in the colour combination of dark grey with concrete grain and an abstract silver and white textured film. The individual colours can now be applied completely individually, without having to take the prefabricated production into account. Even a cheap, new cabinet is added and is instantly covered in the matching film so that no difference between old and new can be seen.

Now, with a new feeling, it’s possible to relax cosily on the living room sofa again, with a perfect transformation of the old but matching wall units.

Rather than accepting the mess and time involved in redecorating, special interior film offers a clean solution for creative living room decorating ideas. Without great expense, even extraordinary designs are quickly easy to achieve. In wood, stone or simply another colour, with or without tactile texture, the self-adhesive film creates a cosy ambience. In addition, it is a winner due to its suitability for everyday use and robustness. No permanent water stains will appear on a wood decor and no stains will soak into the stone surface. Due to a protective layer over the decor, the new design remains permanently beautiful and proves to be absolutely easy to clean.

Wall units in white

Timeless trend colour.

Timeless and classic, white belongs in every living room again. Wooden furniture is increasingly disappearing, making way for this simple colour. Especially high-gloss white visually enhances the room and is particularly popular, because it blends in well with other colours. Colourful walls, wooden floors or carpets do not conflict with the bright colour but bring it to the fore. As can be clearly seen in the pictures, the different wood colours do not blend in ideally with each other. Covering the units with white film creates a completely new overall look.

Let us do the job

Match the colour of the living room wall units.

Very few furniture items are made of solid wood: Nowadays, furniture manufacturers coat the raw material in a pressing process with a thin wooden plate (veneer) or a film without an adhesive layer on the back. Covering the furniture subsequently is a further development to the current manufacturing process, as the coating companies provide their surfaces with a self-adhesive backing. As a basis for bonding, the smooth surface of the already coated furniture provides an ideal substrate. Due to the strong adhesive properties, the film can be applied to raw products without a coating. Specialists subsequently coat all furniture, so that there is no inconvenience in the house.

Full on trend

Cover furniture with modern high-tech film.

%22Make new from old%22: This is a trend worth following! Intact older furniture doesn’t belong on the scrap heap, but deserves a creative makeover. This does not necessarily have to be done with brush and paint but is a much cleaner job with film. Covering furniture with film is currently gaining in popularity among renovation measures, as the quality of the film used for this purpose has improved dramatically: These films create heat-resistant, scratch-proof and water-repellent surfaces, free of bubbles and absolutely low in pollutants. This not only gives the living room furniture a completely new look, but also a robust outer shell that can even be removed again if necessary.

Cover your furniture with film and create a whole new ambience

But the best thing about covering furniture with film is still the complete room transformation in an amazingly simple way: turn your old sideboard into a chic new centrepiece with theour self-adhesive film, perhaps in bright white or in a deceptively realistic wood-effect decor. The small chest of drawers in the corner is dressed up to match and even the large living room wall units are magically transformed.

For large pieces of furniture it is worth thinking about colour contrast, for example, dark red accents next to noble anthracite or a rustic concrete decor in combination with dark oak. This creates creative contrasts with a fresh designer look, simply ingenious! My lowboard for the TV changed its outfit from scratched wood to stylish marble including the matching surface texture. After being covered in film, the shelves now glow with the same refreshed look, more elegant than ever!

Easier than you think: How to apply film yourself

Of course, you can also have your furniture covered by professionals, which is especially useful for furnishings with curves and complicated shapes. However, simple fronts are also child’s play for the do-it-yourselfer.

First, the most important thing: cleaning the surface, because only then can the high adhesive strength on the surface fully develop. Then you measure your furniture element, cut the high-performance film slightly larger than necessary and stick it on. Use a rubber squeegee to smooth out any air pockets, then place the excess foil material around the edges and gently blow dry to soften. The cutter is used to make the final cut directly on the furniture surface. A really useful tool for applying furniture film is a triangular squeegee, which you can use to press the film perfectly into the recesses.

And the result? Phenomenal!
